the whole point of this blog is to help others with all the questions they have about setting up a similar home climbing gym, and ramble about a variety of climbing related subjects.
There is a variety of subjects... most involving rock climbing, written about on this blog. MAKING VOLUMES OR CLIMBING HOLDS, is probably one of the more popular subjects. just check the labels links or search bar to find your fancy.
of course if you want to go back and start from the beggining, please do! to that end, if there are any question let me know ... i encourage you to add comments for others to read or if you want to get me directly you can email me at treadwallproject@hotmail.com

Routesetting and the Treadwall KORE

so recently i was on the phone with one of the long lost vulgarians .... he may not know it. but like it or not he is one of the vulgarians of western washington. come on guy?! you have a frig dedicated to malt liquire? ....judges ruling.....VULGARIAN!

moving on, so T.S. (as i like to call him) and i were chatting about my soon to be arriving
Treadwall KORE and we got around to route setting, as things often do with yours truly. since then i was think about the setting and decide i could share what ive scraped together so far on the topic. the pictures i have thus far are mostly stolen from the brewer's ledge site ....so all you really gain is my yammering on the topic.

Recap:
  • 280 t-nut placements on the treadwall
  • 20 ft of climbing before the wall recycles

Route Possibilities: (without repeating any hold, ie double taping)

  • 1~ 360ft mega pitch
  • 3~120ft trad length pitches
  • 9~40ft gym sport climb length pitches
  • 18~20ft boulder problems

thats the basic breakdown. obviously you could reinvent the pitch lengths but this way its in easy to understand numbers. remember the best part about the treadwall is you can easily reset the wall any time you want. ...k, this is info i easily gleamed off the BL web page, then i hit the message boards.... cause whats a guy to do when he works grave shift and is up all night.. and the people posting who had their own tread walls all had their own methods of setting and tracking routes. but mostly they were variations on the them i am gonna bust out now. the set up..............

here's your wall, all ready to go for mega-enduro-thons. holds in bucket ready to set ..check! route tape?... yeah this can be any tape really, if it sticks...dont get me started on tape that dont stick. but in 20ft your gonna need a new color when the wall recycles. so get 8 or 10 colors and then plan on doing designs. ie stacking tape color together....dots, stripes whatever you wanna go with. but youll need a system and a legend. lets see what BL has going.

sorry these pictures arent bigger but it will help make my point....assuming you have at least the same amount of imagination that Stephenie Meyers had to think up the "Twilight" series. (vampires dont sparkle in the sun and have blissful love with tweenage virgins.... they have dark heart, they eat virgins, burn in the sun and go to HELL!)...i digress.

so in this example basically what the setter has done is set all boulder problems, then they link combinations of those problems to form routes of varying difficult. this appears to be the least difficult method to set. you can double tape holds with out getting to confusing and all you need to do is either remember the order for climbing or post you legend close enough to see from the wall.

but lets say you didnt want to have a legend.... well one guy from god knows where suggested i just memorize the route. he apparently with an elephantine memory uses no tape at all. i guess he didnt want the tape residue on his panels.... well i dont have an elephantine memory.... in fact all i have is an elephantine ass, so i will be use tape.

another gentleman, or it could have been a female (i didnt check the plumbin), suggested having a regular system for progression. i personally like this idea. she (i like the idea that i may have talk to a girl)...she said she use a base color for the route, then puts on a stripe for every lap after the first. she also used ROYGBIV to keep the progression simple.

in case you didnt know ROYGBIV in a mnemonic memory device for keeping the colors of the visible spectrum straight. Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, Violet... say it like roy-g-biv. so anyway she picks her base then does a lap on base color then base plus a stripe of the next on in the spectrum.... looping around after violet. i think this may be what i go for when my wall gets here. it seems logical and simple. but if your still confused ill break it down once more

  • lap 1~Base color only BLUE
  • lap 2~blue with purple stripe (im not sure there are a lot of choices for indigo and violet)
  • lap 3~blue with red stripe
  • lap 4~blue with orange stripe
  • lap 5~blue with yellow stripe
  • lap 6~blue with green stripe

now right there you have a six laps.... a 120ft long pitch. but if you want to go longer you could easily add other colors in, white, black or those god awful neon colors for example.

so you get to have essentially to have at least 8 routes or boulder problems and your system stays relatively clear. you will likely mess up the colors at some point for example grabbing a red on green hold when you meant to go for green on red, but no system is perfect. i guess if your color blind your shit-outta-luck! if anyone has anything else to add go for!

Calm Down Bleeding Hearts!

okay i know some of you out there read my little posts and i hurt your feelings. just so you know we all have things we can be made fun of for. ....example: im fat! so have a good laugh at that. maybe if you all get together and shame me about it i would work out .... do some cardio.... push away from seconds at the table. given that i really dont feel bad about my "mean" posts. it's meant for comic relief. if you feel personally attacked, keep in mind i didnt use your photo in my blog. unless i did, in which case ....come on! why would you post that on the internet. do you know what kinda assholes are out there, spending long lonely nights scouring the internet for folly pictures just to fuel their sad hate-mongering ....which in truth, we all know is just a desperate cry for attention! so.... you can be mad at me for a joke ...or i can make you pancakes!

Gumby Swagger

Gumby:
1) noun ~ proper name for a green stop motion clay animation character created by art clokey in the early 1950's.
2) noun ~a person who acts in a foolish manner.
3) noun ~ an inexperienced or unsafe climber.

climbing ....just ...keeps ...getting ....more ...CLIMBERS! aint plenty of them should find something safer to do. i, personally blame the gyms. dear lord they breed the gumby. yeah this is gonna be a little harsh but hopefully funny. and maybe a little educational. thats right i only want to help you grow ...and make you cry for the amusement of my friend and i. but, mostly i want to help you learn how not to be a gumby! truly i am a giver.

so i believe climbing teaches by to ways, at least it did originally on the stone before we had gyms that became so whipped by banker types breath down our neck expecting the rent to get paid. so, like everyone we had to serve that burger with a smile. but i lost my place.... oh, climbing is best taught by to methods by shame and fear.... oh and then there is fear of shame. fear is easy, you learn so you dont die. fear of the "big ride" helps most of us focus on what most important. then when you have a close call, fear helps you remember exactly what you should have done for next time. shaming.... thats a little harder. those who know what others to learn, but dont really want to take the time to explain it. you might argue, in which case you'll probably continue to do stupid shit. in which case you die and then they wasted a lot of good climbing time carrying you out. so... a quick chiding is faster considering you want to get one last lap in before you have to build a stretcher out of the rope and two tree libs. beside, lets face it, making fun of others when theyre acting ridiculous boosts the ego.

so in no particular order

the barefoot gumby~i dont know how to say this other than....ICK! do you really think i want to touch where your stinky foot fung-go feet have been. did you watch rampage one two many times? did a stoned out chris sharma tell you its the "natural way".... that its "the future of climbing"? yeah hes and idiot... he isnt climbing barefoot on any of his big sends is he? so please stop. put your shoes back on. its not more fun, or better technique, there is no benefit!

the mountaineer gumby ~oh gosh! do you know how i spotted you. its the figure eight! thats right.... the only ones left using those are the mountaineers ...and those who were unfortunate enough to have a mountaineer teacher. guys please update your gear... oh and your methods. how about some evidence based practice.
gumby shoes ~ it's obvious you new when your shoes are so loose they spin around your foot. the toe box has wrinkles in it. i know, i know, the guy at REI or where ever you bought your shoes convinced you that a "comfortable" pair of shoes would be best. but come on, did the fitting shoes really hurt your little piggies that much?

helmet gumby~YOURE IN THE GYM!!!!!! yes i guess its possible that something might still fall from the sky.... but YOURE IN THE GYM! please dont wear your helmet. but i guess it is you safety choice.

gumby footwork ~ for some reason people walk around all day, but the second they try climbing they have no idea how to keep their weight on their feet.... huh? i guess it is again this misguided goal of "looking" like a climber. well, most climbers keep the weight on their feet a good rule of thumb, your foot should rarely.... very rarely find itself above your head, especially not on a vertical wall. oh... and it is possible to "flag" and "back step" too much!

girlfriend gumby ~let me guess... your on a date? we all know your not a climber....but why are you an idiot also, he told you he was taking you climbing. why did you try and get all dolled up? you look as out of place as a chimpanzee wearing high heels!

tape gumby~ i wish i could have found better pictures to emphasize this one but ill try and give you the mental imagery. first off i want to note.... i am a nurse, so when it comes to medical taping, i know what im talking about! first off, buddy taping (taping to fingers together) does little to nothing of a tendon climbing injury! the doctor told you to do it because most docs have no experience with climbing injuries. if you pulled or tore a tendon you need to tape to reinforce the injury! buddy taping is too loose. this is because your knuckle are larger than the mid segments between.... therefore......fuck! it doesnt work!!!! buddy taping only helps to align a break or dislocation! if youve done that, then stop climbing. next, to the people who use massive gobs of tape wrapped around their whole hand like their about to step into the ring with tyson. if your skin is that torn up, take a rest day. if its not actually torn... stop being a sissy!

gear gumby~ "Wow! sweet gear! new camalots huh? did you just get those? do a lot of trad climbing? .....hey, uh ...did you notice your in a gym?!" WTF?! really? is it training weight? you look stupid. and i dont feel bad for taking the hard road on this one. i will only mock you. for some reason this breed feels the need to climb in the gym with every stick of gear they own dangling off their harness. cams, nuts, slings, quick draws, multiple belay devices, anything else you picked up when you told the guy at REI your a climber... its all there. but no, it doesnt give you anymore credibility!

photo-op gumby~ i know your only there cause someone is having a party and you want to remember this "awesome" experience forever. but your in a GYM! people have memberships and theyre there to train. and your trying to hold onto the roof for 30sec while your retarded cousin figures out how the flash works is really annoying! please no more of the vogue posing pictures of your awesome climbing experience. you never went climbing, you went to an amusement park.... wheres donald and mickey?

Okay im sick of loading photos so ill just give brief explanation of a bunch of other gym gumby's. the beta gumby~ this is the new guy who spouts bad beta constantly. half the time he over heard the beta from an actual climber. the rest of the time its just.....crazy talk? watch the person climb your giving beta to, if theyre better than you are its best just to keep your mouth shut. the lead climbing gumby~ this is one of my favorites, because you would think at this point they would have gotten smart. but you can always spot them as they throw the rope over one shoulder before they leave the ground. its confirmed when they back clip the first draw. its terrifying when theyre shaking up a roof with their foot constantly behind the rope. i pee myself laughing when they fall..... then i wish i wasnt a nurse. F! the wandering gumby~ sometimes isnt even a climber. but its that fool that constant wanders the gym floor walking absent-mindly under unsuspecting climbers waiting to ambush their falling ass with the tops of their head. the chalk bag gumby~ these are the folks who use a carabiner to hold their chalk bag. come on! ever wonder why your bag is twisted, or its not in the center of you back making it harder to reach on one side.... clipped to a gear loop? dont try to tell me the biner is a back up or a bail biner, i know better. half of your breed just uses that crappy "not for climbing" biner. you know the one whos gate breaks after you open it fifteen times. let me tell you something.... most chalk bags come with a belt, for a reason! the belt keeps it properly positioned and when you need to easily movable. like in a chimney where you want to put it to the front?! oh i quit!

last but not least..... the spiderman gumby~ .....why? seriously? your ass is above your head! i hope you break your neck!

Treadwall Promotional Video

back when i was trying to decide whether or not i was gonna invest in the treadwall i was begging for something like this video to help me make my decision. this video came along sometime after i decided but before i started the blog. i have been trying to get this video on my blog.... try as i may i couldnt figure out how to do so.. but there is a link to where you can watch it. the video checks in at 14 min and change. there is cheesy guitar music through the entire video and an female commentator with the quintessential optimistic voice. go check it out!

http://www.brewersledge.com/support/training/training-video

watching this video, my recurrent thought is ....im bored!!! throughout the film i am reminded of basic training/introduction films you are forced to watch when first starting a new job at some mega corporate company (B&N, Domino's...take your pic). it does a good job of showing all the general functions of the wall which was nice. but i am definitely not inspired to climb on the treadwall. there is a very antiseptic quality to the video. so i guess the question is, if something doesnt speak to you...may be you arent the audience. given that, i realize, "no i'm definitely not the target audience" ...and you probably arent either. these guys are mostly selling these things to fitness gyms...ie corporate turds! And those guys dont know a thing about climbing. it also likely they dont care. so you gotta sell to what they do hear... fitness, fun, member interest. overall, it felt like a visual root canal... in fact i think id prefer an actual root canal, with the gas! and the tugging! sorry boys.

there are times when the commentator is talking about technique and the climber is demonstrating HORRIBLE form. in the past when i was instructing, one of the things i always stressed was that you never "saddle" your foot on a hold. this propagates poor technique, and retards future develop of quality foot work. climbers need to develop good muscle control in their toes... when you use the arch of the foot to step on a hold it has neither good feel of the rock nor control. you cant pull into a foothold in this position. maybe you dont know what i mean so check out the pics...i used "circles" to emphasize my point... smart right?!

the red circles are the bad "saddling" that i was talking about. the green circles show the climber using their toes like good little boys and girls should!

in another segment of the video they talk about "Ground based Climbing" ...i dont understand this at ALL! i think thats all ill say on that subject, cause if you dont understand it... you dont have an opinion.

the video talks about other incentive programs... i dont know that this would matter to any home user. i doubt i will really ever track my mileage... maybe to beat the overall record? yeah that i would consider. but otherwise boo.

there is also an over use of back stepping in the video. back stepping for some reason seems to be one of those things people love to show off. i guess it looks characteristically like climbing. but like everything it has its place. and honestly i dont back step that much. it's like flagging... if your doing it every move, then your over doing it. so please stop with the pointless overdone off-balance ridiculous looking back stepping!

if i had the ability to change this in this video i would ditch the commentator with the super edited uncandid script. it feels phony to me, and that is never a good sale point ....for me, it generally has an opposite effect. i would also have a section with just stark sound. let people hear the functioning of the machine. i think sound can convey a lot. even though with most people its completely subliminal. they will hear the machine isnt clunky or loose sounding... ie "good design". i would dile down the soundtrack also through out the video. yeah its peppy and plays to a wide range of people, being neither overly recognizable or exclusive. but, after a while that same guitar hook gets abrasively repetitive and annoying.

the video in the end is worth watching. i feel bad saying so much negatively about it. im sure a lot of time and effort went into the production. but its not especially inspiring like some of the BigUP or Sender films.... of course it doesnt have to be. i doubt the goal of the film was more than a sales tool for sending out to fitness gyms. it gives you a lot of visuals of the treadwall and if pictures say a thousand words...video says infinitely more! and lacking anything better ive probably watch all 14 minutes at least fourteen times. so thanks guys i did enjoy it!!

Hangboard Routines

Well, it occurred to me that i could just snap off a picture or three of the training routines i have printed out. these first two are pretty much stolen from the metolius guys. i changed a little to fit in with a Etch training board i was using. but now i also make holds so my boards is set specifically more to me. yeah here you go.

next is just a list of exercises for general conditioning and tracking my daily gig. actually i used this for every other day... and because im fat and lazy and need to get going again i havent used this sheet in a while. my next plan is to make some updates and then im sure ill post that for ya.

the system routine "check box" was one ten min set. so i went for five total. then the arm cures was for 50 reps at super low weight. that one seems to really help my endurance... i could be wrong. but do what you like so you keep interested, right?! yeah then i did 30 of each of the other things. so no big genius level concepts.

Training has some advantages

but frankly.... i wouldnt know what those are. i havent been training at all lately. and by lately, i mean the last six months. so time to get to it. ive always been into creating my own training routine. and i base mine often on what has worked for others and what feels right to me. Peter Croft... please tell me you know who that is.... anyway, Croft said the way he always chose to train was by doing whatever felt right to him, on any given day. i fully agree with this concept. and it has managed to keep me away from any major injury. but i... like so many others am rather lazy when it comes down to buckling into a training program. well i like to research training more than actually sticking to a schedule. one little tid bit i found is this site....

http://www.hundredpushups.com/

yup, help your elbows, core strength, chest, and shoulders.... this site details a 6 week plan for anyone to crank out 100 straight pushups. if i stick with it ill give you an update on how it went for me.

another training tool i like is sadly...tae bo. mock me all you want but when im doing it regular i stay interested and the one specific video i stick to focuses on abs and core strength. plus balance and core at one point. so.... for climbing it seems to be helpful.

by the way i keep trying to post schedules that i have made for training.... but i dont know how to do it when its an excell or word doc. maybe when im really bored ill figure it out.

weather upgrade?!

so you can add a weather upgrade to the wall if you want. to be honest i considered it for a little bit, i do live in the northwest. but in the end i think it would be better to just build the shed and have an enclosed area to climb in. you know... get my self a little space heater and keep the winters warm for climbing.
also, maybe im just not educated in the newest of technologies in weather proofing.... but i look at this picture and i see something that is gonna rust no matter what if it stays exposed to these conditions.
lastly... if there is snow on the ground why isnt this guy out climbing with those ice tools? isnt the point of the treadwall to allow you to train when it's OFF season? maybe, it just a promotional shot?
anyway...why does six weeks feel like such a long time?

Order Update!

so quick and easy! just talked to Garnet, place my order. i figured i would be putting this on my card over the phone, but i guess they prefer a check. a little odd as it seems to add a step but i can deal with it. so later today im gonna throw a check for $2000.00 in mail!

what else is there but to wait? Garnet made it sound like i have a six week wait rather than eight...

Apologies....

.....this might get uncomfortable for some of you. mostly because im going to make fun of you. A LOT! normally i hate blogs, they need a point and focus. this post completely deviates from my point. im not gonna mention the ...tr--d-all k-r- at all. nore are we gonna talk about anything practical. but i am gonna address some parts of climbing culture. but if this is your first visit to the this blog go read the other posts first... then come back to this for comic relief.

so...anyone who climbs regularly hits the crag and hears countless things being yelled repeatedly to inspire each other. GO!, You got it! Grab the PINCH!, i gotcha! Allez, Venga! ...GUMBA!(japanese?)

okay yeah youre annoying, but i can handle it to a degree. but there is this new archetype in my airspace. and i would describe them as annoying urban climbing, skate shoe wearin, upity mega-vegan dieting, tight jeans wearing, indie pop 80's revival music listening, anorexic BMI having, fakey dirt-bag lifestylin (we know you live with your parents and eat outa their frig.), so-ill worshipping (come 'on they arent that cool, plastic thumb? plastic teeth? giant tongue? we get jason kehl "youre wierd"), no history knowin ("john bachar died? who's that? did evolve sponsor him?), and one for pure hate sake.... douche bags. yeah i cant stand you guys. because the only reason you climb is cause your good today and that jerks off your ego. the climbing gym handed climbing to you but you have no actual sense of adventure beyond your "sick hard send" and no sense of the cultural history. i cant wait till you get an injury! seriously, i pee myself laughing every time one of you tells me you have a "tendon injury" cause you "over trained" something. alright, im getting off point but let me digress for just one last point:

when you talk $#!t about how strong you are, keep in mind that there are some of us at healthy body weights who dont want to hear it. sure you climb harder up there, your strength to weight is really good. but... on the ground i can kick the living $#!t out of you. no seriously, your 135lbs will fit nicely under my boot, ill hit a bi-otch. so run your mouth. i cant wait for you to annoy me enough so i can justify, to myself, cutting your rope in the middle ("oh, was that an 80m so you could do the link up in one pitch?") and then i stomp on your throat!

......WHEW! wow... i exorcised a few demons there! folks, i think were doing some good today.

What i really want to put a stop to though is this. your out at the wall and all i keep hearing lately is "GET PYSCHED!".... "COME ON! GET PYSCHED!" only they say it more like "get psyct". F*%K! it's annoying. i hear it at the walls, in different states, i heard it in the boulders in canada, bishop, the gyms. UGH! i cant handle these people anymore, youre dumb!

first off, lets start with simple evidence, if neil patrick harris will use a "saying" you know its bad americana. when was the last time he did anything that wasnt satirical?

Point number two, definitions. lets break down the roots of this annoying phrase.

the psyche: an ancient greek word meaning soul or mind. the seat of faculty and reason.

to pysch, pysching : to confused to cause derangement

pysched: emotionally excited

so we have the origin of the word, but that nothing like what your shouting at the wall right? its just where you got the spelling i guess. i doubt kids are asking their friend to: "Urban dictionary" version, which honestly seems like the opposite of what i want to do on a climb. "no stop your thinking, become confused!" yeah that's not right. finally i think we hit what your trying to say but... usually i try to focus, become clear with the moves. emotions can flip quickly and i want to control them. extreme emotions like "PSYCHED!" can become terror when you get run out or blow something. so shouldnt we tell our climbing partners to focus, ...use their head. but then again, most climbers today just dont know much in the first place.... so yeah, use that dumb emotional energy to gun for the top... its just about all ya got!

lastly i know i cant appeal to your sense of irony. or to your intelligence in this matter. but maybe i can appeal to your sense of cool? thats what its all about, right? well how about this guy...

is this dude really the "band wagon" you wanna hitch up to? yeah... i think that point is clear. yup two pictures movin on...

in closing, please quit climbing, please quit saying "THAT" ...or you could catch a rock in the head.

...see jesus will answer my prayers and smite your ass!

Sunday, May 23, 2010

okay it's not actually official... but tomorrow morning i make the call, give them my info for the down payment and no more than 8 weeks later i should get delivery of my very own TREADWALL KORE!! july 19th will be a very happy day... if not sooner!

Landfill

i havent post in a couple days.... which means i must have actually got something done. that being said your probably not too interested in this if your the average person.... but if your friend or family and know the state of my yard its kinda interesting just to see all the work ive been doing.

so the set up is... my back yard had been plagued with weeds and disarray. the yards landscaping is also multi tiered to the point of ridiculousness. also i used to have a concrete and fill dirt front porch, which then was smashed by my family and made into to piles in my back yard... rubble and dirt. so in trying to create more space in the yard for my treadwall, shed and bouldering wall ive have decided to make a little landfill. first i built a retaining wall out of all the biggest chunks of rubble, and then filled the hole with remaining smaller pieces of concrete.

this is the huge pile of dirt i have to move... unfortunately my wheel barrow is shot. cause i could have use a better one. i think ill hold off though and buy one after this guy fully dies. i just have a hard time wasting anything, why shoot the horse too soon?

well here it is mostly done. ultimately i have raised the ground level about 2ft to 3ft in an are roughly 8ft by 8ft. so what is that about 120 to 190 square feet of busting my ass? Look brewer's ledge!, this treadwall better be bad ass... or im gonna be pissed! ...just kiddin. check out the nearly done pics.... i still have another foot of earth to move .... yay!
oh, i watered it down pretty heavily to kinda help it settle and pack... how was i supposed to know it was gonna rain for the next two days. my B...

The Shape & things to come

i figured it was time to show you a little more about actually shaping your own holds. its not that hard, it just takes a little practice. thats why i suggest you start simple and small. once you get the basics down then you can step it up and avoid making cost prohibitive mistakes. to start with you are gonna need some carving foam. its an easy medium to work with and has a great natural texture for climbing holds. the are plenty of different types of foam out there you can use, but an easy thing to get started with is floral foam. DRY FLORAL FOAM, the wet floral foam wont work it will be a disaster when you go make the rubber molds! you can find the dry foam at just about any craft store and its real cheap, therefore mistakes are easy on the wallet. but you can also find larger quantities for when you get to a place where your shaping bigger holds! ive been slowly whittling down a couple large blocks myself.

for the purpose of this posting i am gonna do a pre-designed hold. you can either start by drawing out your holdor just sculpt free form and see what you get. well, i looked at my holds and realized i was seriously deficient in the pocket hold department. the obvious reason for that is.. i hate pockets, they suck! which probably means i should be training on them... at least a little. so i wanted a nice big comfy pocket jug to add to my 5.9/.10a sets. so i drew my idea up on graph paper. notice the two different views. this is important as it will help me shape the hold. i dont try to put too much detail in this drawing, i shoot for a general shape and concept. once that is done i can cut out a template using an xacto knife.

i put the template up to my large block of foam and chop off the appropriately sized chunk. then i trace my templates onto my block. make sure you line up your traces or the whole point will be lost.

from here we start our shaping. there are a variety of tools you can use for this. my suggestion is that you get a set of clay working tools they work well on foam and are rather cheap (one of my other post show the nice set i got...about fifteen different tools in a black case. if you have one, an electric dremel tool also works great. so i started out here carving off the excess from my outlines. the knife im using is actually a letter opener, it works great and i dont risk stabbing myself.

following that i slowly work the piece with tools till it gets closer to what i imagined. for carving out the finger hole i opted to use this wire circlet. and to get more uniformed curves i use the wooden sculpting tool.

another great trick is to use your hand an fingers. you can act like a sander and slowly form the hold to the shape of your liking. i use this method often. it helps me make things more symmetrical and ergonomic. i had trouble taking a good video of this but here is the general idea.

so... um, yeah there is that. and after working the shape for a while i come down to something i like with this hold i created a dual purpose hold. on one side there is the pocket we were looking for and on the second side there is a nice sloper. i tried to make it so that the pocket isnt usable when the sloper is well positioned and vice verse. of course thats not perfect, but i do what i can. last but not least i like to add a little "flare" to the hold. for all my other holds of this series i put on a little design texture. it works for me, youll come up with your own likes and dislikes ...i guess.

anyway sometimes pictures dont do things justice so here are a couple of videos to give you a better look. as a bonus, in the video is another hold that i did on the fly when i got some ideas making the first designed holds. after this the only thing left to do is drill the bolt holes. but that will be on a future post. uh, stay tuned?....
